Day 4: Moose Drool

Brewery:  Big Sky Brewing

Location:  Missoula, MT

Style: Brown Ale  ABV: 5.1%

Info about Beer/Brewery:  I absolutely love the Western part of the state of Montana.  My wife and I stayed in a cabin outside of Missoula, MT on our honeymoon 11 years ago and we went back to celebrate our 10 year anniversary.  The mountains in western Montana are absolutely picturesque, especially in Glacier National Park.  If you have never been, it is definitely worth a trip.  The fact that tonight’s beer is from a brewery in Montana holds more significance than just a quality brown ale.  It reminds me of the beautiful woman that I call my wife, and the beautiful place that we have so many memories of.  Don’t let the name fool you.  This beer does not taste like ‘drool’.  But as some of the underside of the bottle caps say “Always drink upstream from the herd“.  Moose Drool is brewed with four different malts and will pour a rich and deep mahogany color.  Subtle coffee and cocoa notes will hit your palate as you enjoy this special brew from the Big Sky Country.

Cheers to special memories with special people!

Advent Reflection: As we continue with the journey through the genealogy of Jesus from Matthew 1 the next character that is mentioned is Abraham.  We journey back to Genesis and not too long after God says that there will be a “descendant of the woman” who will crush the head of the serpent,  we are introduced to the narrowing of this ‘seed’ coming from a specific family line…the line of Abraham.  Genesis 12:1-3 says, The LORD had said to Abram, “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” As the narrative of Abraham’s life progresses, one of his descendants will be the one to be the source of God’s blessing to the whole world. Genesis unfolds and we read that the direct descendants of Abraham are Isaac and Jacob.  Jacob has 12 sons and one of those sons (Judah) has a prophecy said about him in Genesis 49…”The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the rulers staff from between his feet.” This tells us that Abraham’s seed (descendant) through the line of Judah will bring blessing to the nations through a kingly ruler (symbolized by the scepter).  The kingly ruler from the tribe of Judah has not yet come…..but he will!

Maranatha!  Come, Lord Jesus, Come!  Cheers….

  1. I appreciate the passage for today; not only does it reflect upon the “blessing” that is Jesus, but it also reminds us of the blessings that we receive from the Lord and how we will be blessed if we bless others. And,despite the name of this particular beer, I enjoyed it. =)
