Day 1: Fistmas Holiday Ale

Brewery:  Revolution Brewing Company

Location:  Chicago, IL

Style:  Holiday Ale  ABV:  6.5%

About the Brewery: Revolution Brewing is Illinois’ largest independently owned-brewery and is known for making beers that compliment the revolutionary craft beer scene that is growing  in America in recent years.  After home-brewing in 1995 and working for the likes of Golden Prairie Brewing and Goose Island Brewing, Josh Deth, his wife, and a few friends opened Revolution Brewing in Feb. 2010.  The brewpub is located on Milwaukee Ave. (fitting for Beer Advent 414…the area code for Milwaukee numbers) in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago.  I have not yet been to the brewpub but a few of the Beer Advent participants have and they say that it is pretty solid. (Sounds like a trip is in order!)

About the Beer:  The Fistmas you are drinking on this first day of Beer Advent is a rarity.  It is made in limited supply and can only be found in the months of November and December.  Fistmas is steeped with ginger root and orange peel and is brewed with specialty malts.  It will pour with a beautiful red tint and you’ll get aromas of fresh baked bread, caramel, and fruits.  This Fistmas Ale will definitely get us into the Advent spirit.  Pour it into a pint glass and enjoy.  Cheers to Beer Advent 2017!!!

Advent Reflection: “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women are merely players, They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts”. -William Shakespeare

Our lives are original stories.  Each one is different from every other.  Every story has a unique and different beginning.  The Bible is also a story, God’s story.  Jesus is at the center of God’s story and it is through him that we can join in the grand narrative of God’s story.  This is what we anticipate this Advent season.  We anticipate the long awaited and prophesied Messiah, born as a baby.   He is our Savior King, born in a manger, to bring us into relationship with God.  As you reflect tonight, think about your story.  What is it?  Who are the main characters?  How has Christmas (the birth of our Savior) shaped your story?

Enjoy Fistmas and reflecting on your story!!!

  1. Interesting Shakespearean “Advent Reflection”–great way to start Advent! Thinking about the season as a story for Christ, but for us as well. A fun journey.
