Advent Reflection: Hosea 11:1-4 “”When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. 2 But the more I called Israel, the further they went from me. They sacrificed to the Baals and they burned incense to images.
3 It was I who taught Ephraim to walk, taking them by the arms; but they did not realize it was I who healed them.
4 I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love; I lifted the yoke from their neck and bent down to feed them.”
Faithful. Steadfast. Loving. This is the character of God with a people who were continually unfaithful, impatient, and unloving. This is the same God who loves us a good, good Father. A God who heals our brokenness. Who lifts the heavy yoke from our necks and bends down to nurture us. Let us rest tonight in the arms of our good, good Father.
Not a huge fan. Great dark brown color, decent head on the mug. Flavor was deep and pleasant but not really something I would order a second of.
As to the reflection I taught RCA (that’s the class non catholic adults go to in order to join the Catholic faith) and I used this to discuss the horrible Old Testament God was Angry New Testament God is loving meme. All of the flack God took from the Israelites and yet he kept coming back to them (or never left?). It is seriously a case of a father who is strict but never gives up and you wonder at what point after decades and generations of favoring them does he throw his hands up and say I am done. What a loving father that after thousands of years and all of my imperfections he still wants me back.

If I was to be honest sometimes I am like the children of Israel, impatient, unloving, wanting to go my own way, but God is so good He loves us so much. He sent His Son to be our Messiah, and His Holy Spirit to guide us in all we do. We have such a loving Father. He loves us more than we can imagine. Let’s love Him as he deserves.
Great beer Phil!! It’s my favorite so far. Where did you get it?

Thanks Brad for your transparency in your comment. His love for us is DEFINITELY more than we can imagine. Especially after time and time again I find myself just like the Israelites. Hope that you are enjoying Beer Advent!
