Beer Advent Day 8: Grolsch

Brewery: Grolsch Bierbrouwerij N.V.

Location: Netherlands

Style: Euro Pale Lager  ABV: 5%

The Grolsch Brewery was founded in 1615 in Groenlo, Netherlands.  This year the brewery celebrated 400 years!  Grolsch Brewery is the second largest brewer in Holland, after Heineken.  Grolsch Premium Lager is the brewery’s flagship beer.  It is a European style lager which tends to be a little bit more bitter than the lagers that we are accustomed to here in the States.  It will pour a light, fizzy yellow color with a little bit of corn and spice in the aroma.  The swing top bottle that you have in your possession certainly sets this beer as unique (definitely a keepsake)!

Prost! (Cheers) to lager of the Dutch!

Advent Reading:  Matthew 2:13-15

13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.”
14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt
15 and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

  1. Not my favorite of beers but definitely glad that it was on the Beer Advent calendar. I really enjoy trying beers from different parts of the world. The first four/five swallows were nice but the taste seemed to dwindle as the beer did. I would still drink it again simply because it is beer!

  2. Robert, amen: “I would still drink it again simply because it is beer!”
I’ve had this one before just because of the keepsake bottling, but similar to Heineken, it tastes a little bit “skunky” for my liking. The novelty of this beer, however, keeps me coming back for more.
